Nature By Night event series: Twilight Ski
Day: Saturday, January 17th
Time: 4:00–6:00 p.m.
Location: Meet at Tomasi Dr. Trailhead
Embrace the transition from day to night: Join KLT board members Shawn Opplinger and Mike Abbott for our Nature by Night event series Twilight Ski!
As the cool winter light fades from blue to pinks and greys, you may find your senses heightened: the feel of the brisk air on your face and the heat of your muscles working, the smell of evergreens and freshly fallen snow, the “swish” of your skis beneath you. This is your opportunity to explore all that evening skiing has to offer.
Shawn and Mike will lead two groups: one group will enjoy a shorter, more beginner friendly loop (~2 miles), while the second group will ski a longer loop (~4 miles).
Where to meet:
The groups will meet at the Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids trailhead at Tomasi Drive, then ski our way to KLT’s Churning Rapids conservation easement.
What to bring:
- Classic XC skis (You can rent skis from MTU’s OAP if you don’t have a pair!)
- Warm layers
- A headlamp if you have one
This event is brought to you by KLT as part of our Nature by Night event series, in partnership with The Rosza Center at Michigan Technological University.
KLT is a proud sponsor of the Michigan Tech Rozsa Center’s NatGeo Live: “Earth After Dark” with Babak Tafreshi on Friday, January 16. To celebrate, we’re hosting three outdoor night events from January 15–18. Bundle up, grab your outdoor gear, and experience the magic of winter nights in the Keweenaw!
