Highlights

Silver Island is dominated by mature, but stunted, forests with red and white pine, fir, cedar and some hardwoods and a rich understory of native mosses, woodland plants and shrubs. The island supports or is visited by a diversity of native wildlife including black bear, bobcat, beaver, otter, bald eagle, merlin, osprey, and loons observed among others.  Around 70 species of plants have been identified on the island, including the threatened Pterospora (pine drops) and several unusual orchids and sedges. The exposed wave washed rock ledges and beaches are rare ecological community types.
