The Covered Road
scenic corridor is popular and marveled at by
residents and tourists, especially when ablaze with
fall colors. The overhanging trees along the narrow
road create a
closed canopy that is beautiful in
every season. Landowners Susan Dlutkowski and David
Harmon chose to place a conservation easement on
their 57 acres fronting the scenic drive. The
property slopes sharply to a wetland and beaver
pond. The easement protects native biodiversity and
the watershed, and allows natural processes to occur
with minimal interference. The owners of this
private property have taken an active role in trying
to expand protection along the Covered Road scenic
corridor.
The easement was
established in 2003.
"Our conservation easement is very important to
our family because it ensures that the natural
values we enjoy on our land will be there for
everyone who comes after us, humans and
non-humans alike."
