Erika Vye

KLTís newest board member Erika Vye (photographed at right on a musical retreat at Lightfoot Bay) hails from Nova Scotia, and graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a degree in earth sciences. Her current research is focused on the improved communication of earth science issues to the general public. She is particularly interested in peoplesí connection to the Earth, the landscape, and how that ultimately guides their decisions on land use issues such as natural resources and geotourism. She has traveled the world widely; besides spending several years in Germany--and speaking enough German to get herself into trouble--she recently spent the entire holiday season in India. Erika says that one of the most wondrous sights she ever saw was the Arctic Ocean as it occupied the horizon seen from a helicopter.

Multi-talented Erika: she is an accomplished musician, a singer/songwriter who has performed with several different local groups. Currently she is one of the musical duo Barnstormers.  She is deeply involved with the MTU student organization Global Cities that promotes inter-cultural understanding and n awareness of the realities of life in the non-overdeveloped world. Erika lives in Laurium with her dog  Echo, inherited from her dear companion Greg Wright, also a lover of the Keweenaw, who has passed on to other worlds.
