Norma Veurink
I
am a lecturer at Michigan Technological University.
My favorite thing about the Keweenaw is snow, snow,
and snow! Ok, the people are nice, the country is
beautiful, and there a lots of outdoor recreational
opportunities. It is a small community where a few
people can make a difference.
I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, hiking, agate
hunting, camping, fishing.
I want to help protect land in the Copper Country so
I don't see "No Trespassing" signs everywhere I go.
The Keweenaw is rapidly losing its public access,
particularly along the shoreline. Many people live
here because of the character of the Keweenaw which
largely includes an undeveloped landscape,
widespread public access and the mining history. I
would like to see that character preserved.
I joined the KLT Board of Directors because I saw
how rapidly things are changing in the Keweenaw. Now
is the time to preserve and protect the landscape.
One of my strengths is that I generally do what I
say I will do. Another is my passion for land
protection and for these reasons I am an asset to
the KLT.
