Join local biologist and educator Tom Oliver for a family-friendly nighttime adventure at Steve Farm Nature Area. With snowshoes snug and ears alert for owl calls, we’ll move slowly and mindfully through the snowy landscape, listening for distant “hoots” and learning about these fascinating nocturnal birds.
What to bring:
- Snowshoes (wooden snowshoes are best, but modern, metal snowshoes are also just fine!)
- Warm layers
- Hand warmers
- Flashlight or headlamp (with a red filter if possible)
- Your sense of wonder!
This event is brought to you by KLT as part of our Nature by Night event series, in partnership with The Rosza Center at Michigan Technological University.
KLT is a proud sponsor of the Michigan Tech Rozsa Center’s NatGeo Live: “Earth After Dark” with Babak Tafreshi on Friday, January 16. To celebrate, we’re hosting three outdoor night events from January 15–18. Bundle up, grab your outdoor gear, and experience the magic of winter nights in the Keweenaw!
