The first phase of the Lightfoot Bay Cooperative Coastal Wetlands Project, funded by the National Coastal Wetlands Acquisition Program (United States Fish and Wildlife Service), Great Lakes Fishery Trust, and community partners, was completed in August 2007 with the establishment of a KLT preserve encompassing Lightfoot Bay, a large natural embayment of Huron Bay, near Skanee, along with a diversity of wetland habitats and pine forested dune.
