June 2008 - Announcing the 11th Annual HorseTail Scramble July 4, 2008 at Churning Rapids
|
 |
A popular community fitness event held on the 4th of July on woodland trails at Churning Rapids.
10 km Trail Run – 5 km Fitness Trail Walk
1:00 p.m. with registration open at noon
Churning Rapids is located at 53044 Hwy M203, Hancock 4 ½ miles past the Hancock Beach towards McLain State Park.
Challenge the 10km Trail Run or enjoy a leisurely 5 km fitness walk. Glide along forested trails past woodland streams, view Lake Superior from the pasture against the sky, and take a jump in the pond to cool off at the end. This FUN event is a major fundraiser and supports the Keweenaw Land Trust. This year proceeds will be directed to the Land Stewardship Fund – a permanent endowment that helps ensure the Trust can meet its long-term obligations to care for land protected by conservation easements – such as the one keeping 770 acres of the Churning Rapids working forest lands open for non-motorized public recreation - and for the nature preserves KLT owns and manages for public enjoyment and education such as the newest, the Lightfoot Bay Coastal Wetlands preserve on Huron Bay near Skanee – a beautiful setting with critical wildlife habitat along with rustic historic log cabins that can enhance on-site program.
No Entry Fee but donations to support the Keweenaw Land Trust Land Stewardship Fund are encouraged.
We have pledges matching the first $1,500 from Scramblers and we want to be able to use the entire match! For those donating at least $15 there are HTS bags.
The Scramble is held in conjunction with the 16th Annual Fourth of July Celebration at Churning Rapids. Scramblers and sponsors are invited to join in the music, feast, and festivities following the Scramble.
Many who come to the celebration bring a dish to share. Come and join the FUN!
