August 20: Improving Your Soil

Gardens can enhance the beauty of your yard while also encouraging all sorts of wildlife. Birds, butterflies, bees, and many other animals can use gardens for food and shelter. If you'd like to learn more about nature-friendly gardening, come out the Keweenaw Land Trust's Marsin Nature Retreat for an upcoming session about garden planning on Sunday, August 20th. Volunteers from the Master Gardener program will provide information on the important role of healthy soils for garden success and describe how soil testing, compost, and amendments can be used to improve garden soils. This informative session will be followed up by hands-on learning during a short work bee to prepare a new demonstration garden for fall planting. New and experienced gardeners welcome.

--Sunday, August 20th at 2-5 pm (Presentations at 2-4 pm, Hands-on experience 4-5 pm)
--Marsin Nature Retreat, 52864 Red Brick Rd., Houghton, MI
--Bring gloves, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Tools will be provided.

Stay tuned for details about future workshops on September 17th, and October 15th.
